I've always wondered if men have the same issues as women do.

There's all different types of men as women. Men who are handy men, men who wear suits for livings and never get their hands dirty, men who do both etc etc.......

Is there a bit thing amongst men to be "manly" just as there is for women to look like we stepped out of a magazine.

Or is it mainly us women who are unhappy with ourselves?

If you're talking about issues of 'manliness' that do not have to do with appearances, I'd say yes.

Most guys I know, myself included, may dress up on a Saturday night, but don't generally worry about their looks. There are some who do, but in general, I don't think so.

On the other hand, 'manly' as a concept is something I believe a lot of guys do worry about. Being confident, assertive, even aggressive is something that guys worry about projecting re the opposite sex. If you're the guy who is just part of the 'pack' or worse, the object of derision or violence by other guys, your perceived 'attractiveness' to a prospective mate goes way down.

So it is a bit of a competition, especially in younger years, of trying to stand out, in one way or another. And being a top dog is a lot of what 'manly' means to most guys.

Peace

When compared to men women are quite hung up on wanting to be seen as sexy and attractive. And it is not all
bad. Women are more beautiful and attractive today than
they ever were. And they are nuttier and more psychologically disturbed than ever.
My fried, if men did 1/8 th the things women do to try to get
attention the women would be right to criticize. Most men
are individuals no matter what. When a style comes along
the women all jump in and dress like each other. Men just
remain themselves and wonder why these beautiful women
are trying to make themselves over every 2 or 3 months.

Great question.

I am not a "Macho" male jerk... that said, I have never been hung up on that whole "Act like a mans man" sort of BS... I have nothing to prove.

As a financial planner, I do not get my hands dirty... I wear a suite every day... ( well, most days ) but that does not make me less of a man...

What makes a man a "Man" is how he treats others, how he lives his life...and the imprint he makes on the world around him....

Just my thoughts...

Woman usually do their best to look attractive because they know that men like to see attractive woman,, and vice versa, men work hard to be manly cause they are sure that woman are attracted to such behavior.
