i want to know if i bought gears and a posi unit for a rearend on a 1984 el camino, will they also fit a 1968 el camino as well? the gears are 3.42, 26 spline and are for a 10 bolt 7.5 gm rearend....HELP!!!

I'm pretty sure the 68 El Camino would have an 8.5. I believe the 8.2 came out in the 70's and the 7.5 in the 80s. I'm a chevy man, but this is why people go with Ford rear ends, their is only one and you just swap internals. Chevy rears will drive you crazy.

Standard El Camino should be a 10 bolt 8 1/2 inch ring gear axle----84 71/2 inch parts won't fit. Check the size, number of bolts and shape of the cover gasket at a parts store or dealer to see what size matches yours to help identify what it is.
