maybe its due to the actualy physical seperation and your still basing your relationship from the last time you guys actually lived close........relationships take work and commitment......"long distance" thing obviously would keep you guys from making the step to being close.....and some mothers/daughters just arent that close.......

No, My mother would tell me she hated me because of my dad spending too much time with me when he came in from the road. I was only a child of around 5 and that lasted till I was about 10. Then later I was out of the house and things got better and we eventually built up something, I am not sure what that something was. Then when I had my first child I wouldn't let her in the delivery room and it has been down hill since. So I say your not alone at not having a close relationship with your mother.

My mum and I are very close. Several emails a day, talk on the phone every second day. Couple of visits a week. I respect her opinions and often ask advice even tho I am in my 30's. The 2 people who know me best are my husband and my mother. I would struggle if I lost either one

No I am not close with my mother at all. I stopped getting close to my mother when I was around 11. This was due to personal issues though I try to build a relationship with her by e-mailing her.

Some women are close to their mothers and some arent. In most cases the women who get along very well with their mothers are the women who WERENT over protected when they were children (eg. werent getting grounded often, didnt have strict rules, didnt have chores etc.. ) and the women who dont get along with their mothers very well were on tighter leashes when they were younger like having to do the chores, having strict rules and getting grounded often. My mom doesnt have me on a tight leash, i dont have an upsetting curfew time, i dont get grounded often and i dont have to do chores.. i think if i did, i wouldnt get along with her very well... She's more like a friend to me then a mother.. and thats why i can see us still being close in the future... maybe you're mother was too hard on you when you were a child?

My mother is my best friend. We support each other because if we don't no one else will.
Growing up my mother was all I had and we did everything together.

Not one bit. We are strangers. Have been since I was born. We have never been one bit alike. There is no animosity or discord between us, we're just too dissimilar
