After the answer above, you might want a link to
Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS). http://www.4woman.gov/faq/pcos.htm#a

Now here is information about the 2 drugs you're taking:
Provera is a type of female hormone (progestin). This medication is similar to the progesterone that your body naturally makes and is given to replace the hormone when your body is not making enough of it. This medication has several uses. In women who are not pregnant and not going through menopause, this medication is used to treat abnormal bleeding from the uterus and to restore normal menstrual periods in women who have stopped having them for several months (amenorrhea).

Medroxyprogesterone is also used as part of combination hormone replacement therapy with estrogens to reduce menopause symptoms (e.g., hot flashes). Medroxyprogesterone is added to estrogen replacement therapy to reduce the risk of cancer of the uterus.

This medication must not be used to test for pregnancy.

Fortamet is an oral diabetes medicine that helps control blood sugar levels.

Metformin (fortamet) is for people with type 2 diabetes who do not use daily insulin injections. This medication is not for treating type 1 diabetes.

Metformin may also be used for purposes other than those listed in this medication guide.

You didn't give me a lot of information, but I'm thinking the doctor suspects you might have Polycystic Ovary Syndrome, or PCOS. This is an endocrine disorder that affects blood sugar and hormones in women. It can cause a woman to get diabetes, and it can also stop your menstrual cycle and cause infertility. I have it, so I know a lot about it. I didn't have periods for 10 years, but I take medication and I follow the American Diabetes Association diet, and I am in good health and have regular periods now. I'm sure I could have children if I wanted, but I had my tubes tied a couple years ago. Anyway, you can get pregnant whether you're ovulating or not, because you could ovulate and not know it until you find out you're pregnant! Our bodies are designed to reproduce, and if you don't want to get pregnant, use some other kind of birth control. If you want to get pregnant, take your medication and follow a good diet. If your doctor isn't answering your questions to your satisfaction, maybe you should find a doctor you like better. There are doctors out there who will take time to answer your questions and help you with things you don't understand. I hope I helped. Good luck.
