I'm traveling to Las Vegas in two weeks and can get my flight for about $100 cheaper if I fly into Las Vegas at 8am, which wouldn't be a problem with me (more time for fun!). My question is will the hotel hold my luggage until check-in time? Is there a fee to hold the bags or do I just go up to the check-in desk and tell them my situation? If anyone could let me know or give me any other helpful hints or things not to miss in Vegas, I'd appreciate it... First timer here! Thanks!

Yes. Go up to the check-in desk and politely ask if you are able to check in first (if the hotel is not full, we have been allowed to check in early), if not, then they will direct you to the bell-hop who will take your bags & give you a claim ticket to turn in when you do check in. No charge; but a tip is expected. (same for the day you leave as well-they can hold them until your flight leaves). While waiting for check-in you can usually use the pool--so you may want to pull out a suit before you give them your luggage. Otherwise, get your sunglasses and go find a nice spot & have a welcome drink and then start exploring--shopping, people watching whatever!.

Usually all hotels will hold your luggage for free if you have a reservation to stay there. especially in Vegas they kiss your A** but you should just give them a call!!
