So...we bought this old house and remodeled.
It had a ton of roses 3 feet thick all around it and the were just jammed in there from neglect.
Stupidly I had a guy come over and cut them all down to about 6 inches high. I thot we would lose all but the most hearty. Well now we have all kinds of colors and leaves choking each other out and it a worse mess than ever plus it is stretching 5 feet thick all around the perimitor of my ever shrinking yard...what the heck can we do? we cannot afford to higher root diggers.
help!!

Prune them properly. By just cutting them back to 6" you encouraged them to grow in a more compact -ha- manner. Selectively prune out half of the stems. Will result in a more upright growth habit.

Take out every other plant thinning the area.

Wait until the winter when they are bare rooted. They are easier to dig up then. Or keep cutting them back yourself - it won't hurt them to keep them smaller and more compact.

I saw this somewhere else.
Put a sign up in your front yard.
"FREE rose bushes, you dig up." I bet you get alot of responses.

If you don`t want them, you can use a weed killer on the bushes. they will dig up much easier when dead.
