I am reading The Client by John Grisham and I am wondering when it will get good. I am on page 100, and I'm not really motivated to read it. Is it going to get good? Did any of you like it?

Yes, it definitely gets better. You're yet to read about how the lawyer and the kid gets through the various difficulties set up for them by the mob they have pissed off. But if you really can't find the groove of it yet, I encourage you to rent the movie and see it. It's one of those films which didn't deviate too much from the script and actually enhanced the book.

For setting appreciation, watch it. Then go back to the book to delve deeper into Mark's world. :)

I didn't appreciate the book until after I read the movie. The books are slow to get going - they don't have that instant take-off that a lot of novels do - but are well worth it in the end.

I finally read The Rainmaker as well, also by John Grisham. I couldn't get through the movie, but the book was awesome.

If you saw the movie first, it helps with the book because you can pretty well tell what's coming up. Grisham's a good author, but he's also a retired attorney and politician from what I've read about him, so you have to get past all the legalese. Another good book of his is "A Time To Kill", where a southern white attorney defends a black man who killed his daughter's rapist, and they both get harrassed by the Ku Klux Klan.

Im not much of a Grisham fan. But dont stop just because you arent into it. Read it and then analyze what it was about it that you didnt like. If you are writer yourself, reading bad books can be more helpful than reading good ones. Pax - C

I liked it, because I saw the movie first and knew what was coming... believe me, it gets really, really good! Has someone been murdered yet, in those first 100 pages?
