I have when I've travelled to an urban area to go out to a club or something and haven't been very well recieved, but you know what, it took awhile but I found there are so many others out there who don't fit the club scene and are just as gay. Has anyone else had this experience or is it a rural thing?

Since I am not young with a perfect "manscape" body, I am generally ignored. Sometimes many times I feel hated by just as many Gay Men as I am hated by many Straight Men.

I think everyone has experienced that sometime or other. Not just clubs ... recently I was at the HRC True Colors concert, and was involved with this event. I really have a hard time respecting the major donors from the Federal Club. They are big on themselves. The one "unnamed" donor thought I was in his seat, without argument I moved over 5 seats. Then security moved him and his entourage way over to the crappy seats, and I sat back down at my original seat to watch the concert. I was smug and pleased! LOL

However the people from HRC's national offices are great. I respect all that they are and do. They are REAL!

I lived in a large city with a big gay population until 4 months ago, when I moved back to the rural part of Hawaii. In the city, I very rarely went to bars or clubs, since I don't drink and find drunks boring. I was involved with other groups that fit me better.

Next time you go to the city, try the coffee shops and other shops in whatever gay area is around.

I tend to be a bit shy, and so it is difficult to be in large parties. I also don't like making sexually suggestive jokes with people I do not know very well, and so I'm not the MOST popular person in the gay community, but I wouldn't say that I'm actively disliked.
