If the temperature sensor is broken will that affect the way the car runs?? and can it damage it?

yes it can overheat without you knowing about it and ruin your engine in a very short time and as for computer that sends out codes(engine light ) your car is OBD II -- it will set off the computer to turn on the engine code when it starts to overheat and it might turn it on if it senses that the temperature sensor is not working and it can affect the engine overall performance when it can not optimize the engine performance based on the temperature reading among all other readings

If the temperature sensor that is broken is the one for the dash bulb warning indication or actual guage indication is the sensor that is broken, then no to both of your questions. If the sensor is for the PCM and that is the one that broke, then yes the motor will run weird and the SES light will come on. I don't think it will damage the motor though. Just fix what's broken as sensors and switches are very cheap compared to what you are worrying about. Good luck.
