There is nothing you can do to improve the dial up connection, other than getting Broadband.
You can improve the speed of your computer though, by getting some more RAM installed.

not too much you can really do. max out the RAM in your PC, defrag regularly, spyware/anti-virus. also you may want to get in the habit of rebooting your PC right before you get on the net so the maximum amount of memory will be available when you start web surfing, etc. also check all the local access numbers to see which one you can achieve the greatest connection rate with. the FCC limits 56K modems to 53.3 so that is the absolute highest rate that your modem could ever connect at

Dial up sucks no matter what. Most websites nowadays aren't 56k friendly. Almost everywhere you can now receive high speed internet like dsl, cable, satelite, etc. I would suggest an upgrade, 56k in some areas is even more expense than many dsl packages.

Dial up is painfully slow. You should think about upgrading to DSL. Dial up costs about $10 per month but you can get Verizon DSL for about $17 per month. The increase in is well worth the 7 bucks.

you should check for a STRING for make and modle of your modem. normaly you can get those from the company who made it. Along with how to install it..
