Because we're a shallow society, obsessed with anything that's sexy and sensational. Ask almost anyone who their Congressman is, and they probably can't tell you. But those same people can tell you how many times Britney's been in rehb; what the batting average of their favorite baseball player is for the season; or how much money "Shrek III" grossed during its debut. The media 'reports' what the public wants to hear....because that's what attracts advertisers. If the public had as much interest in the Iraq war as it does in celebrity status, maybe we'd be screaming a little louder to end the insanity and immorality of this unconstitutional and illegal war. -RKO- 06/12/07

Wow! That is a heavy one.
Well, you can probably guess that the media thinks that we are morons. But the fact is they get paid for whatever they do.
Also, the media is politically motivated. If they can get you mind of the invasion of illegal aliens (or UNDOCUMENTED AMERICANS), or the terrorists (HOMEGROWN OR OTHERWISE), then they can turn the public into compacent puppies who will allow anything to be fed into their brains with only a Stepford like response. That's why the Fort Dix conspiracy was buried within the dredges of the newspaper and the JFK conspiracy got page 30 something in the New York Times.
If they fill our heads with garbage, it give big business more time to come in and steal America because we are not paying attention.
I could say more, but, who will listen. Check out CBN. Check out WorldNews.net. Check out FreeTalk Live!
To quote: America, you can't handle the truth!
To quote: The truth is out there.
To quote me: I love my country and I am not ready to loose it to those who, for ANY reason, have not earned the right to be here or want to destroy me because I do love my country.

oh well, with Paris being a socialite n full of drama, maybe its just one of her PR's gettin her all this publicity and with that maybe some sympathy from the public!
And maybe people are tired of hearing about the US - Iraq story..US has been criticised enough around the world and in the US itself..Only the dumb americans know y they re-elected Bush..well, any governent is cunning enough to bribe the media away from what they do not want the press to cover about their doings..so maybe its all political & maybe Paris' PRs' aint the ones behind her publicity..it is just a stunt to divert people's attention away from US-Iraq..

Because conservatives complain about 'negative, bad' news. I guess they'll rather see Paris cry than seeing what's their sons and daughters are doing in Iraq.

'Cause Iraq is hardly "news"...whether or not Paris Hilton's time in jail and the circus that go along with it may not be newsworthy but that hardly matters to our media outlets

Because nobody will know the mentality and interest of the Americans better than the press.
