First of all, I don't understand why it's important for you to be comfortable looking at a dead body. It's ok if you don't enjoy that. Maybe getting "freaked out" is a bit of an overreaction.

The sight of a dead body can be disturbing. Seeing one is like being slapped in the face with a truth we really don't want to face - called MORTALITY.

Each living thing has a natural life cycle. Circumstances in life direct some of us into an earlier end than others. Death is evidence of a drastic reality about how truly vunerable we are. Once a person's life ends, that person's life ends. All that appears to be left is the physical shell (body) which used to house the beautiful thriving life force of an individual. It's sad. That physical body will eventually decompose like all lifeless living matter.

The question is not so weird. You want to examine life and death and part of that is accepting certain facets around that subject. I'm pleased you are alive and well enough to be using your mind's mechanism and your breath to understand as much as you can about life while you can. Very best to you.

Being a Police for 10 years, I had seem courtless of dead body, from a most sexy naked body to a most horrible discomposed body.

I had never afraid of seeing these bodies. But there was one incident that I was really scare to death. It's just 1 minute after the new year day, a man commited suicide by jumping down from 10 floors. The body was ended on the 2nd floor. At mid night, I was alone with the body for more than 2 hours before the investigator came.

I thought I had overcome the fear of death body, but I still feel so frightened for that 2 hours. It's the fear of unknown from inside me. As whose know what will happen after death?

Death is just another part of life. And what you are seeing in that casket is merely the shell that once held the soul of a person. The soul is long gone when you see it. Think of it just like a shell you find on the beach - discarded by some sea creature that didnt need it anymore. That's all it is. And if you still find yourself freaking out, go outside, take some deep breaths, close your eyes and project yourself to a happy time you shared with that person. Focus on the good times. Be happy that the soul has moved on to a better place. It isnt weird - it's normal. Pax - C

I don't know what you mean by "freaked out".

There are different approach to dealing with fears and phobias. Personally, I don't think there is a need to address this fear. I've seen dead bodies, if I don't see another one ever that will be just fine by me.

I would consider that the dead body of stranger is easier to witness than of someone we know or care about.

The fascination with death is a larger concern for me.

I was nervous to go to my grandpa's funeral in 8th grade because I wasn't used to seeing him like that, but with the comfort from family and friends, I wasn't so afraid. As long as I'm around other people (who are alive), I'm not so scared.

I have that problem too. My grandmother made me kiss my step grandfather's cheek in the casket when I was 6. Never got over it. It had no warmth. It was cold and hard. Not like the man who I remember at all. That was over 40 years ago and it still bothers me.

What you should do is watch horror movies with dead bodies, or the medical channel. They both have dead bodies on them, and could help you accomplish your fear.

i've never been to a funeral where the dead person didn't freak me out. It makes you think of your own mortality. I do believe we go somewhere else, we are transforming into a butterfly, or in my case, an eagle.

Perhaps you have a misconception of what it actually is.

I saw my first one recently, and despite my emotional attachment, I realized it's nothing like the living human that once inhabited its space. It's inanimate.
