It would be funny if he was joking and called you the "dish washer". I can't believe he wouldn't let you keep a brand new dishwasher. He sounds extremely controlling. I would let the dishes pile up until he finally concedes and does them himself. Either that or invest in paper plates.

I am the dish washer of the family regardless who is cooking. I don't enjoy doing them and I don't do a good job at it but I still do them. Now I use the dishwasher regularly because my son raids the fridge constantly. So your husband has some crooked logic going. Tell him if woman is in charge of the house, you can pick whatever appliances in it.

If my husband "made" me give away a brand new dishwasher, it would have been the last argument we had. I would have packed up my dishwasher, cascade and all and ran for the hills. Where are you guys living? Dogpatch??? You should ask why he makes such a big deal about BJ's and have your jaw wired shut! Don't take the wires off til the dishwasher is firmly installed....

Wow!
My husband was equally "no big deal"ish about dishes he wouldn't do, but when he offered to get rid of my brand-new- to-me POS dishwasher, I told him he could have it in the divorce.
I have a nice dishwasher now, and the same husband.
If it matters that much to you, let him know how much.

My hubby as the same way. He would not help out , and we have a dishwasher. So I told him it is one way or the other : I cook, YOU do the dishes or YOU cook and I do the dishes. So now every night HE cooks !!!!

Cause you are putting up with it. Go out and buy a dishwasher and have it installed. Tell him that it stays or you never do another dish. If he argues with you, tell him you will also stop cooking. Stop whining and put an end to this nonsense.

Sounds like a controlling person, especially not keeping a dishwasher. I know this can be really annoying, but I'd just stop doing them, and say your doing the dishers tonight, if they don't get done, just leave them.

He doesn't wash dishes because he knows that you will. As for giving away that dishwasher, you should of kept it and got rid of him.

one word, laziness.
i hope that dishwasher is still available because i would ask for it back! c'mon, you're an adult and you must realize he's not going to suddenly become responsible for himself. so if you want to eat on clean dishes, you should make it easier for yourself (never mind easier for him) and get a dishwasher.
i hope you have your own income. it's terrible being dependant on a man who is irresponsible.
