How would you clean an automobile engine? I heard an Engine degreaser works well, but is it safe and can it cause any damage to the engine. Is it safe to spray water over the engine? Thanks everyone for your responses.

I`d spend extra and take it to a steam cleaner service. That can be a nasty job.

Extremely short answer: Stay away from the distributor cap.

Slightly longer answer: If you use a degreaser, rinse it off well and you may have to rinse and repeat depending on the severity of the grease.
