Well, first off you have to realize that it's The Killers, and their lyrics don't always make sense, nor do they have to just like some of Fall Out Boy's stuff and whatnot.
I think this whole song is about being bitter over not getting someone you wanted, so it's saying that the girl had a boyfriend that looked like a girl.
