There never was a freedom of speech to begin with. A little, yes but never absolute. And yes, the war issue was completely stupid.
And George Orwell was ahead of his time. Big Brother is indeed watching (and listening) to us. Sometimes, I even get paranoid and the saying "walls have ears" truly ring true at this time and age.

In some ways no because you might say the wrong thing and it can be called racism. For example a white person will call an African American the nasty N word and you are considered a racist. They can call each other that and I hear them do it all the time yet they can call white people Honkies and it is not considered race. I don't think people should be arrested for protesting as long as it is peacful. But then again the "God hates f*gs" group protest funerals of soldiers which I feel is so anti christian and I dont consider them christian at all and well I think that should be shut down. So it is kind of a double edged sword. In Maine it is now illegal to protest funerals and I am glad because I am sick of those protests but like you said does that touch on the whole freedom of speech thing. I think people in general need to choose to use better judgment when speaking. I personally feel it is disrespectful. Even if people hate the war they should still respect and support our soldiers and protesting at their funerals is not support if you ask me. It is a tough question you asked but a good one. I don't think anyone should have the freedom to degrade people publicly and when I say that I mean the media.

The only time that I see Freedom of Speech is alive and kicking, is in the disgusting language that is used on Television and by some of the people, especially the younger population and this included toddlers.
Otherwise Freedom of Speech no longer exists.....the P.C. Brigade has put paid to that along with Freedom of Actions.
Sad place to live in, these days.

Yes we have a voice and people use their all the time, but just to complain. When it comes to getting off their backside and actually do something about it, they then give up their freedom by saying, "There's no point, no one will listen."
Or they will complain that someone else should do something about it.
That's how this government can get away with murder, they know people will moan and complain, but they know they will never do anything about it.
Unfortunately there is no one person or group that is strong enough or charismatic enough to be a focal point for the people to rally around and change things.

I still believe freedom of speech is around. The problem is you need to keep fighting your corner till people listen. Too many people voice an opinion, get shot down in flames, then remain forever quiet on the subject.
You need to keep voicing your opinion if you believe it to be right till people listen. Don't give up at the first hurdle.

The only freedom of speech I see is the news.
Al Sharpton gets the face time
Cindy Sheehan was getting the face time
But anyone who supports this war besides the predident does not get face time.
It is sad because the news is full of biased liberals who care about their own political agenda than getting the real facts to the people.
And you can't say anything or do anything unless it is politically correct or else Al Sharpton will be after you.

I don't notice anybody censoring me, since I don't use foul language.
Of course I don't always get my way. That isn't a freedom of speech issue, however. If the President were to do what I want, he would have to displease somebody else; that's logic.

You have a voice--if you choose to use it. One way to start--when you have something to say, e-mail your political leaders. Here's the Websites where you can find your Congressional e-mails:
house.gov
senate.gov
And every state has similar websites to find your state officials' e-mails.
As for watching what you say--you don't. If someone disagrees with you--that's THEIR freedom of speech. And if they don't respect your right to speak--that's ThEIR problem.

Sometimes I feel my voice is lost, i was brought up believing one person could make a difference, but no matter what it seems its always the same kind of people having control on everyone else.
