Hi! I have a Dell Dimension 2400 and I am trying to buy a 250 gig hard drive on ebay. The seller says that the cord that comes with it is a SATA cord and it is supposed to connect to the motherboard. Does my computer allow that?
Should I buy it?
Thanks for helping!

Yes. The 2400 has a SATA connection, so that hard drive and SATA cord will work.

You cannot attach an IDE hard drive, however. Stay with the SATA.

You will need to get a PCI card that has SATA ports. So go ahead and buy it, you will just have to drop about 50 buck extra on that PCI card. It is worth it though, SATA is much faster.

Sorry, but what you are trying to buy is a SATA drive, your computer supports ATA, so it won't be compatible. Try finding an ATA drive. You can get installation help at http://www.support.dell.com
