Most of the pictures of male bettas on the web are taken when the fish is "flaring" or holding it's fins out. If you look for a little while you will find some pictures of them in a more normal pose.

siamese fighting fish are usually the species Betta Splendes. This is the most common species, there are others. If your fish has long flowing fins and bright colors it is a male. If the colors are muted and the fins are short it is a female. If you are going to breed them I recommend you do some research on the breeding of Bettas as they're not that easy to breed. They are solitary in the wild and only come together to breed. They must be seperated and conditioned before breeding. If the female is not ready to breed and the male is he will kill her. They build bubble nests and will need some floating plants. The female must be removed after the spawning as the male cares for the nest and will kill the female if she is present. Good luck.

You will tend to find that female Betta’s have fat bellies where as males tend to have a more streamlined structure. Also, you will find that males have a longer body and fins whereas the females are shorter in body size and fin length.
Also, male Betta Fish tend to have more colour and longer pointed anal fins compared to their female counterparts (sorry ladies!). You will also find female anal fins are more level to their body. The anal fin is the rigid looking fin coming from the bottom of the Betta Fish.
However, one giveaway of a female is her white spot on the underside of her belly. This white spot is called the ovipositor and is used during the breeding process.

your video satisfactory could be very dangerous so it is difficult to inform. It appears like a male but it surely type of has shortish fins. Females are a lot smaller then men and feature brief fins and men have normaly lengthy fins and are greater. I am beautiful definite this is a man however your vidoe is dangerous whilst you received it even at a puppy retailer they must have instructed you

Boy Betas are the typical beta fish with the long fins and bright colors.. they are also the ones who will fight/kill one another when put in the same tank as another male beta.
girl betas aren't very attractive fish and don't stand out very much.. their colors are typically grays and browns
the male betas stand out more so that's how you can tell...
oh btw... beta fish tend to not eat flakes because pet stores and such feed them pelts so if your fish isn't eating that's why.

Well, I'd like to disagree with almost everyone!! My 3 females are almost as pretty in colour as my boys are, just their fins aren't as long and flowy.
Do you have a picture of yours we can see and judge from?
