Hi Maddy, yes I have been robbed too. It seems so many respondants say they, or somebody they know, have been robbed or stolen from. It seems that it is a fact of life.
I was robbed by somebody very close to me. He took my credit card(s) out of my wallet and ran them up. He took my debit cards and stole thousands of dollars from my accounts before I realized they were missing.Thank goodness all I was required to pay was fifty dollars per card, the limit of liability when unauthorized use occurrs. He wasn't prosecuted by the credit card companies or the bank. I thought that very odd, that they would wish to at the very least prosecute and see that the person was punished. However, it was explained to me that the credit card companies and bank simply didn't wish to compound the finacial loss by having to spend money and time on prosecution. It was also explained that when I allowed them to reimburse me I signed away any rights I had to prosecute, that I am no longer the "victim", the finacial institutions are. This seems to lead to increase credit card theft. If people know they probably won't be prosecuted, they tend to do it.
What I mean is, if somebody has such low standards and moral fiber that they would steal in the first place, then knowing they risk little if they do so, they tend to do it more. I know many good people have solid moral standards and ethical natures. They wouldn't dream of stealing just because they wouldn't get caught. They would know they did it and that would not rest well on their consciences.
Sadly, it seems too many folks tend to take what they want without any regard to who they hurt in the process. I personally know individiuals who think they have some degree of intitlement to take things they want. So many people who have the money to pay for items shop lift them instead. They like the "rush" of excitement and fear of exposure. I simply fail to understand such a 'thrill" when so many others end up paying the price.
However, it seems the more crowded we become, the more easier it is to see what the rich have, it just makes people feel that what they have is poor in comparision. They tend to think that there isn't any real reason why so many have so much more, and they feel that life and the world has given them a "raw deal". Which of course may very well be true, but it doesn't translate into a right to take what doesn't belong to you.
Those who steal and rob seldom consider what it does to the person they victimize. There is a reason people who have been stolen from or robbed are referred to as "victims". They are. There is so much more taken than the actual monetary value of the item(s). There is a feeling of violation, a reduction in feeling safe, and a loss of trust and innocense. The emotional cost of a robbery is huge.
I feel bad for anybody who has been the victim of a cirme. I hate the word "victim", but there really isn't any other. Sure, we try to sweeten it up with euphemisms such as "survivor" but euphemisms don't cover the real cost or emotions behind what occurs. It doesn't even come close. "I am the survivor of a robber", just doesn't equate, "I am the victim of a robbery".
Anyway, have a great day and upcoming weekend!!

Well almost robbed. i came home to find a guy trying to break down my sliding glass door. car was stolen though. took it to a auto shop to have some repairs done. the owner called me the next morning to ask if i had dropped the car off because it was not there. come to find out somebody had broken into the shop. we had put the key into the key drop and some punk stole the car. The crazy thing was that the owner of the shop had a Chevy Bel air and some other classic cars in the shop and not one of them was touched. The police found it a month later!

Yes, I was 18 at the time and working part-time for a friend's video store. The guy came in posing as a customer asking questions about the video game rentals and I caught him off guard by my response, before I knew it he had his hand on a gun in his leather jkt he was wearing and he told me that this was a stick up and to give him all the money in the register and I was then instructed to go in the back office and I thought I was going to be killed because I could identify this guy to the T. I really thought it was over, 18 and this was where my life story would end.....he didn't hurt me at all. He just left very quickly and when I was sure he was gone I called the police. I feel so fortunate that I was given a second chance in life with that incident. It has affected me to this day though, I am very afraid to be left alone and won't go anywhere at night by myself....it's given me alot of anxiety.

I once worked for a bank that was robbed 3 times in 2 yrs, and I was there all 3 times... It was horrible, and leaves you feeling hopeless and distressed for a very long time afterward, realizing your life is in the hands of people who have no respect or concer for other people's lives.

Yes, on more than one occasion.
I was robbed a couple of times while at college.
I've had stuff stolen from the back seat of a car. That was 2 years ago on my 3rd day in the Orlando area.
I had stuff stolen from me while I was in the Navy stationed at Great Lakes.
Why do you ask?

PS: Three times my child was kidnapped by his mother or her family. He was ok all three times, but he no longer wants anything to do with his mother or her family.

Nothing compares to Serenity's answers, but a while back I was visiting a friend from my old neighborhood. We went to the drugstore to pick up some things. Put everything in the car and were getting ready to pull off when a man walked up to the window and asked us for directions. Because we had just gotten in the car I had sat my purse in between the two front seats. As he was talking he reached over my friend (she was driving), grabbed my purse and took off running. Not thinking, I got out of the car and took off after him. As he ran he was taking things out of my purse. Eventually he had gotten rid of everything except my wallet (even the purse). While we were running my friend followed in the car, picking up my things as we went. Eventually I caught up to him and proceeded to beat him over the head with a big brick I had found on the ground. My friend called had called the police, and by the time they got there the guy was out cold . . . I got all my stuff back. =)

No. i think all of us go through while a member of our society does incorrect. for example, even regardless of the undeniable fact that the financial organisation is "robbing" us with the extreme expenditures of exams, ATM expenditures, and so on, each time somebody might rob a financial organisation & have been given away with it, the charges might pass up. Its in basic terms like shoplifting. you may get away with it, in no way get caught yet you pay your share for the object you stole over your lifetime. besides, have you ever examine the information for catching a financial organisation robber? They continuously get caught.

Yup, and I literally chased 3 men out of my apartment by myself with a heavy glass bowl, and a REAL bad attitude. It took the police FOUR HOURS to get there. The excuse was that it was the 4th of July and they were busy elsewhere. THAT'S what my tax dollars pay for?
