I can't find a greyhound or shuttle to get out there.

You could either take Amtrak to Mendota, which is about 15 miles from Starved Rock. Or, Greyhound goes to LaSalle which is about 10 miles away. From there you'll need to call a cab company to schedule rides (unlike Chicago, cabs in the area are only available on a call-ahead basis)

Check with Amtrak. Starved Rock is located very close to Utica, Ill. so there may be a train station near by. From there, you can probably get a cab or something. Heck, if I'm remembering correctly, it's so close you could probably bike the rest of the way. But if you're going for just a day, make sure you arrange for transportation back to the train station, etc. before you get ready to leave. It would suck to be stranded there.

If you have a boat you can travel down the Illinois River from Chicago. You'll have about 4-5 locks to navigate through but it would be a fun trip.

Doesn't seem to be a way to get there witout a car. Amtrak doesn't go there either. You might want to rent a car.
