Wow. People really get serious when math is involved.
The public seems torn between:
1) You die.
2) You're only 1/4 alive.
I was going to argue that you'd be 100% alive. You can't be a fraction of alive. You either are or you aren't. You can be close to death, or near-death, but you're still alive.
I was going to say that ... but that's boring.

Then you've been scared 3/4 to death.
1/2 to death means you have 1/2 your life left. If you are scared 1/2 to death again then you lose 1/2 of 1/2 or 1/4 of your life. Therefore, you have been scared a total of 3/4 to death.

being half scared to death has a multiplicative, not additive effect. So you are actually only 1/4th scared to death after the second time. When you are half scared to death yet again, it results in 1/8th scared to death, and so on.
As you can see, the more times it happens, the less the effect, which is a good thing.

Well, if you're half-starved and then you eat something, then you've recovered enough to be able to be half-starved again without it being the death of you. If you're half-starved and you don't eat anything, then you'll die.
So, if you've been scared half to death and you have some recovery time, then you can be scared half to death again and still live. If you get scared half to death right away, though, then that's the end of you it would seem.

You're still a 1/4 alive...*smirks*
When you're scared half to death the first time, half is gone...well if you only have half a half...and you're scared half of THAT to death...that's a 1/4 alive still...You'll keep getting scared half to death always taking half away...you'll never actually die...

You become more susceptible to heart attacks. Increasing your risk of death. When someone actually dies from fear their heart contracts and stays their like a cramp. This is caused by the surge of adrenaline. If it happens but not enough to kill you your heart will be more susceptible to heart attracts. And if it happens twice you may want to start caring around a defibrillator.
