The number of babies born jumped from 2.8 million in 1945 to almost 3.5 million in 1946. This birth rates remained high until the mid 60's but births reached a peak of 4.3 million in 1957. This entire group are commonly called baby boomers, although the ones that suffered most from over crowded schools etc were those born before 1957 when the society needed more time to adjust to the increase in births. We have never since had births exceed the level of 1957 even though our population has nearly doubled.
Only a small fraction of the boomers were old enough to be hippies in the 60's but most of the draftees for Vietnam came from their generation and most entered the work force after the post WWII boom years and instead face the bad economy of the 70's. Now they are the most conservative age group in the US.

Not really, Hippies were not the rule. The 50s and early 60s had greasers, collegians and beatniks. The beatniks seemed replaced by hippies. I fought in the Vietnam war with a million others who also did not rebel.

I didn't do drugs either and neither did most of my friends.

In 1966 I came home from Nam and everything changed.
Drugs were everywhere. I had a friend named Arty that bought enough bogus grass to open a restaurant. He didn't know where to get real drugs in 1963. 1966 was another story.

Still many Baby boomers resisted the pressure and never gave into the psychedelics.

I never did!
