Disconnect the battery. It takes 5 minutes to do on the worst car I know of. You don't want to do any arc welding.

Absolutely disconnect the battery; it only takes a minute and it's an opportunity to clean the terminal. A misplaced wrench or screwdriver could otherwise result in hundreds of amps of current, which will likely damage something and provide you with, as a souvenir, a tool with a big chunk melted out of it.

Its not worth it. Disconnect the battery and be safe. You may actually be saving yourself time and money by soing so. Once you take it to ground and things start shorting out, you can get in to some big money. good luck

well...considering one of the wires going to the starter is directly connected to the battery, I'd consider disconnecting the battery first, but I might be too safety minded.. NAH!

ANYTIME YOU ARE MESSIN WITH ELECTRICAL CONNECTIONS, YOU SHOULD SOP THE POWER SOURCE FROM REACHING WHERE YOU ARE WORKING!!!

ps it will only take 5 mins IF the hoodlatch is broken...all you have to do is loosen 1 nut and pull the - cable off...

How much time are you really going to save, 5 minutes? Don't take chances, disconnect it.
