which ipod do you mean? If its an ipod video, maybe its not a vry good idea as it is hard drive based and not flash based.
hard drive based are sensitive to drops / movements as there are moving parts since its like a hard drive on a pc.try getting an ipod nano or a shuffle if you intend to buy an ipod....

An ipod would be a great present if they really enjoy music and technology.
If however they are not big on music they may appreciate something else more.
However most people would love an ipod so if your a bit stuck on a gift idea it would be good anyway, most kids enjoy music so it wouldn't be a bad gift.
The iPod itself would be very appropriate however it may be worth monitoring the content been placed on it (if your worried about them listening to explicit lyrics or inappropriate themes). This shouldn't be too difficult if their computer use is moniterd

Yeah an ipods are great for anyone over the age of 11. Get him/her an ipod nano which is very small but comes in many colors which most kids love. Or you could get him/her an ipod video depending on how much he/she is into music.

I have four siblings under the age of 13 and they all have iPod shuffles. They are relatively cheap, easy to use, activity-friendly (meaning, they can be dropped and such without being destroyed), and the kids find them quite fun. Don't go out and get some $350 iPod with video screens and enough hard drive space to load your brain...start small and set an iTunes downloading budget.

Yes, it probably would be. there are plenty of kids out there younger than that who have iPods. I'm sure him or her will be very happy to receive and iPod, and will get lots of use out of it.

If they are really into music and are capable of taking care of a fairly delicate little device then the answer is yes.
