Oh yes. I remember getting 25p a week pocket money.

2p bus fare to the town (and 2p back)
5p for a comic
10p for a huge bag of sweets (a 10p mix-up)

I was happy for the day and still had change.


We were millionaires when our birthdays rolled around, my Aunts - Mam's three sisters - would each give us a fiver, so for the month following our birthday, we'd be given five pounds every week instead of 25p - 75p (it went up incrementally every year), we'd also get some parental financial advice and pointed in the direction of the TSB (the advice didn't stick by the way and I'm trudging in the mire of debt).

I used to get 25p pocket money and it lasted me all week. Sometimes I'd still have money left when the next weeks 25p was due. These days I can't get from one month to the next without going into my overdraft.

Yes. I think I got more pocket money than I'm being payed right now. My family weren't rich eather.

God yes, I wish the only thing I had to worry about buying and paying for now was panini footy stickers and a quarter of rhubarb & custards!
