A long time ago I thought that love was something that you reserved for some special set of people that you had judged worthy of it.
After a while I got to thinking about what Jesus had said about turning the other cheek and loving our neighbor I put the two together and realized that he had made no exceptions in these statements. It became obvious to me that he intended that we exclude no one from the love that we are supposed to be giving. I started thinking about my idea of love and suddenly realized that I had not been loving anyone at all. I had simply been judging everyone and every thing.
Judging someone worthy of love is not love, it is only judgment. I actually started to cry when I realized this. I saw just how much of my life I had wasted being judgmental, thinking of myself as a Christian, when I was actually doing just the opposite of what Jesus had asked us to do.
I thought about the verse judge not lest ye be judged, and I understood it for the first time.
I realized that I have a lot of catching up to do. So many opportunities were wasted. I now try to apply the love that I have for the world in a universal way like Jesus asks us to do.
If I start to feel afraid and think that I see someone that I should not love because of something I have thought or heard I try to catch my mistake as soon as possible. I tell myself that I have forgot the truth and have fallen for the same old trick that had cost me so many opportunities to be loving in the past. The horror of this realization is often all that is necessary to bring me back to my senses and make me drop the judgmental nonsense I was thinking.
I still have a lot to learn about love, but at least I’m making progress.
Love and blessings
Your brother

You choose love, hate chooses you.
"I was asking if you agreed that believing in love and hate at the same time is something we shouldn't do. Because when you believe in love and yet still believe in hate as a real thing its like saying you believe in heat yet understand cold to be equally of value and not just a thing to express lesser heat."
You seem to think it is within the power of humans to choose what is to be real and unreal. The whole meaning for sanity is that you do not choose it, but sometimes we seek it when in doubt. Did you doubt love as much as hate before they were real experience? Or did you choose one over the other experience. Do you choose pain or pleasure. Normal people did not deliberate before the experience as their essence is there before their consciousness.
The Will is positive, the Judgement is negative.

If I understand you, you are saying that one must choose to believe in the FACT of both love and hate, or in the BELIEF that hate is merely the absence of love.
I have to go for the latter; I am basically Aristotelian, and I believe that everything human is for the good, no matter how heinous it may appear. If I believe this, as I do, then there IS no hate for me to CHOOSE; there is only love.
There is no battle between them, because hate does not EXIST. It "appears" only in the absence of love as a phantom filling a void, a vacuum, easily replaced by the inevitably returning love--or were this not so, the human being as we know her/him, would have been long gone.

The analogy with heat is not without merit. We only love. Hate is a form of loving our self, that is to provide the environment free of what we hate.
I choose respect. It never lets one down and it has such growth potential in terms of understanding. As for the existence of love and what to do about it: Well, there are the sex hormones and they are mightily strong. This is typically called love and it is but it frequently eclipses the fact that we love everything we think will benefit our lives. What sustains any relationship with people or things is respect.

I choose neither. Love is for the needy. Hate is for the angry.
Love is only a feeling of affection. Love, like any other emotion is transitory.
Some might argue with you though, that indifference is the opposite of love, not hate.
I don't love you. I don't hate you. I am indifferent to you.

I choose Love.
Love is just a more endearing part of our existence and it's a lot less negative energy to love. Hate takes a lot more energy, time, drama and negativity.
I only have one life and I prefer to leave this world positive and fulfilled, instead unfulfilled and wondering.

i know this isn't an answer to your question... but i read an article where the author said he believed to real opposing forces were love and fear... not love and hate. after thinking about it, i see his point...everyone will say they don't hate... yet, can they honestly say they are without fear?
