Ok, i want to name my baby for my grandpa who died 2 years ago...his name was Frank, then i started to think of just using the same meanings, i found a gaelic name, Laighean pronounced Layn. Do you like it? I would use the same middle name Michael as my grandpas.

Its a really nice name, but something which will be mis spelled and mis pronounced for your sons life. Maybe a good choice for a middle name, or you could spell it a more user-friendly way- Layne/ Layn or Lane. But if you love it, then go for it.
Hope that helps! :)

I think it's a lovely name, but there isn't any connection between "Laighean" and "Frank" which of course is derived from St Francis, who was so named by his father because he liked France.

"Laighean" means the province of Leinster in Ireland. Its derivation may be from a word for "weak" or a word for "lawmaking", nobody knows for certain.

In either case, there's no feminine connotation to it, in case that bothers you.

The pronunciation would be like "layan" in Scottish and Ulster dialects, and more like "lion" in Western and Southern Irish dialects.

I like it. The spelling looks a little feminine, and he might have to tell people repeadetly how to pronounce it....
