Then pick the hotel you want to stay at instead of by it's location.

Montreal has a wonderful easy subway system and it's easy to get where you want to go. The best resturants and hotels are not in the old city, but in the downtown area. Old City is wonderful and fun...for a day. You will have more fun downtown.

Try Springhill Suites by Marriott. It's near the waterfront in Old Montreal, and a short walk from most destinations. About 10 mins. walk to the edge of the old city where the subway line is.
The hotel is fairly new and rooms are spacious and clean.

If money isn't a problem for you, I suggest the St-James Hotel located right in Old Montreal. This is where the stars stay when they are in town....georgous!

By all means, you should stay at Hotel de la Montagne.

The roof top pool has entertainment nightly. There is also entertainment inside or cut through its restaurant Thursdays and
there is Crescent st. with plenty to do there.

Rooms have balconies also.

The Intercontinental is nice, but real expensive. Springhill Suites is great on a budget.
