I make stencils from thin cardboard, like a manila folder or the front page of a calendar. Just find any picture that would look good in profile, and still be identifiable. Print it on card stock and cut it out, then tape it to the cardboard and trace around it. Take it off and cut where you traced, by first making a slit in the center of the design and then cutting out toward the edges.

Now tape your stencil onto your skateboard and spray paint or use a stencil brush. I have also done stencils with a little roller brush. After it dries, spray on some shellac.

If you have a wal-mart, or sewing store, or even a hobby store you can purchase extra thick template plastic in the sewing dept. near the quilting supplies. It is thick enough to hold the shape while handling it, thin enough to cut out your stencils, and it is printable, just run it through your printer like paper. You may have to set the paper thickness on your printer though.
They come in sheets 8.5 x 11 just like normal paper. Once you get your stencils cut, you can purchase special aerosol glue that you spray on the backside of your stencil, its kinda tacky, and holds your stencils in place while you paint. Peel it off, and the tacky part stays on the stencil, not on your project.

On a skateboard, you can use ordinary white contact paper. Print out your design on any paper, transfer that design to the contact paper. Apply the contact paper to the skateboard. Use a exato knife to cut out the design. Use spray paint or air brush paint ( available at craft stores...The equipment and cans of propellant are also available there ).If you are using multiple colors, make sure you mask off the different color areas. Spray a clear protective coating over the design you've made. Do a web search for designs.
