Kenmore (made by Whirlpool), Whirlpool, and Roper (again, made by Whirlpool - but with basic features) are always top rated by Consumer Reports. Avoid Maytag brands (Admiral, Amana, Caloric, Crosley, Dixie-Narco, Dynasty, Gaffers & Sattler, Glenwood, Hardwick, Holiday, Hoover vacuums, Jade, Jenn-Air, Kitchen-Aid, Litton, Magic Chef, Menu Master, Modern Maid, Norge, Speedqueen, and Sunray) as Maytag's "reliability" is nothing more than an advertising campaign.

Whirlpool branded machines commonly use a "direct drive" transmission, which eliminates the belt - one less thing to cause problems.

Interestingly enough, Whirlpool aquired Maytag in 2006 (not the other way around as Maytag would have you believe).

Personally, I own a Hotpoint (made by GE) as it was a more moderately priced brand with a lot of features only found on high-end machines. It has been average in reliability, not like a Kenmore/Whirlpool.

anything but a ge profile. I have had it for less than 3 years and have 2 computer boards put in it .... and the repair guy said that it happens all the time with this brand , also very slow to make ice. but one good thing that board runs eveything so you only have to replace the one part ...lol
