memory refers to RAM which your computer uses to store temporary stuff that cannot be put on the disk because it is too slow. Also, memory is not kept after you turn off the computer. Storage is where things are stored like your files and data that needs to be preserved across turn-offs.

The word, "memory" is *commonly* (in *my* way of thinking, I think) used to refer to a specific TYPE of "storage".

"Memory" is a sort of "volatile" form of information "storage" which means, when the computer is turned off, the information can't be guaranteed to be there, and almost certainly won't be there, when the computer is turned back on. Non-volatile "storage" is, for example, a CD or a hard drive or a thumb drive or (remember?) tape drive or (remember even further back?) punched card. You can turn off the power and the stored information is still there! Woohoo! A book, too, is storage. Your mind is memory and storage. When they turn you off, your memory will go away.

Generally for memory we mean Random access memory (usually known as RAM). For storage we think to hard disk drives and to removable storage devices like CD and DVD.

Memory refers to the RAM inside your computer. RAM is used to store data that is currently in use or likely to be needed soon. This is because RAM is much faster than storage, which refers to your hard drive.

Loading data into memory allows it to be accessed much faster; this speeds up your computer. However, since computers have only a limited amount of memory, only relevant data needs to be stored there. Unneeded data is stored on the hard drive.

Usually memory would be referring to how much RAM you have in your computer (ex: 512MB of RAM), while storage would be referring to how much Hard Drive space you have (ex: 320GB of Storage). That is the most common terminology for what your asking.
