I'm of the opinion that there are a lot of people in this country (UK) who complain and moan when everything isn't 'just so'. The health service, taxes, public services... the attitude seems to be 'I deserve better'. A case in point - I was at a train station yesterday, at about half seven in the morning. A woman was 'disgusted' that the ticket office wasn't open and she had to use the machine - she was genuinely livid, as though her life had become quite unbearable. So I thought to myself 'No, it's not disgusting, it's mildly inconveinient. Poverty is disgusting, people being massacred is disgusting'.
So my point is - when you feel like you're being treated like a prince rather than a king, just remember how lucky you are.

Very good point, i agree with you that we moan and complain a lot. Maybe just maybe that's why we got it so good in the first place!

No we haven't got it too good, and not everyone in UK is lucky in the public services etc that they receive. Lucky also implies chance (postcode lottery?) which it should not be down to. We should ALWAYS seek to improve the situation, both for ourselves and for others.

I agree that many people abuse the word "disgusted". I think It a flawed attempt to get more attention onto a problem, than its perceived to need. Because people feel that they are being ignored they use stronger and stronger terms. Also petty inconveniences are more likely to be aired.

I wonder if the woman at ticket office filed a complaint, to try to get it "improved"? If the station management doesn't know about a problem how can they be expected to correct it. Unless they know about problems, they can treat it as if there isn't any.

Maybe it's living in a state which publicly implies "we've never had it so good", and that any problems are down to the people, that's causing this shift in attitude.

Wow. Perhaps she was just having a bad morning.
I do think everyday is a precious gift and we should be thankful for life's little miracles.
People can only 'deserve' better when they step up and take action against what they believe to be society's wrongs.
Otherwise, they are just blowhards and are bored with themselves.
I am in agreement about what is disgusting.
We are very lucky.

You might have answered your own question.

I'll reverse the idea and say that if you're that spoiled by societal and technological comforts, you have it worse than citizens of impoverished countries because you are the least adaptable of any of our species.

It's they who are made uncomfortable by the slightest of inconveniences who deserve our pity most, for it is they who will find it most difficult to find genuine fulfillment.
