Hi all, does any of you happen to know who performs Ode to Joy in English? All I have is in German. I'd appreciate your help. Thank you!!! =)

I know it is an ode written in 1785 by the German poet and historian Friedrich Schiller and its musical setting was composed by (Ludwig van) Beethoven
Thing is, we have a Spanish version (the lyrics I mean) And i got hold of the English lyrics, so I was wondering if anyone ever perfomed it.

the Utah Opera Chorus performed a grand English version of Beethoven's "Ode to Joy".

You may be thinking of a hymn that's sometimes sung in church ("Joyful, joyful, we adore Thee, God of glory, Lord of love..."). The church hymn adapts the melody from Beethoven's 9th Symphony (the melody/tune is actually an old German folk tune), but the lyrics are very different from the Schiller poem that's sung in Beethoven's 9th. It would sound like the "Ode to Joy" but it's not a literal English translation of the Schiller. There are numerous versions of the church hymn in English if that's what you're looking for. If you're just looking for the English translation to the Schiller poem, that's easy to locate through Google.

I have never come across recordings for Ode to Joy in English. It's like you're trying to sing a Japanese song with English lyrics. It may work, but it will sound only half as good as the original.

It was written in German. And while the performer varies, the composer is always Beethoven. I'm unaware of an english translation, sorry.

Hi. A song was written entitled SONG OF JOY based on the melody of Beethoven's Ode To Joy from his 9th Symphony,and sung in English.It is a popular song in Australia .I don't know if this is the answer to your question ,but it is the only version that i know of in English.

Isn't it one of the most BEAUTIFUL pieces of music you've ever heard, though? I've got four different 'recordings' of it and have heard it performed in our 'acoustically perfect' symphony hall ... but I've NEVER heard it sung in anything but the original German ... so I'd like to 'come back' to see if you get any 'good answers' ...
