Pain started last night... went to doc today (student health)... they sent me immediatedly to get CATscan to make sure it wasn't my appendix... found I had a ruptured cyst. My doc prescibed my vicodin for the pain... told me to take 3 ibuprofen 4 times a day and to not move about to much for the next few days. Am I good to go? What about whatever ruptured out of the cyst? Is that stuff okay in my body?

Yes, you are more that likely going to be fine. The contents of the cyst will be reabsorbed by the body. Cysts inside the body are normally filled with just ordinary cell fluids, all of it belonging to you anyway, so there's nothing to cause trouble. The ibuprofen will help control the inflammation, and the pain to an extent. You just need to rest and recouperate for a few days to let the body concentrate on healing itself. Since you had one ovarian cyst, you will want to get a full exam and checkout with your gyn to make sure things are okay for the future, or determine if there are others in the making.

Depending on the severity of your ruptured ovarian cyst, there are a few treatment options:

1. The first option is to wait and see if your ruptured ovarian cyst disappears. Cysts are a normal occurence and usually disappear within one week. If you are still experiencing the the ruptured ovarian cyst symptoms mentioned above then it is recommended that you visit your doctor.

2. The second option is immediate surgery. If you go to your doctors and diagnosed with a ruptured ovarian cyst then surgerical treatment may be required to remove your cyst before it becomes life-threatening.

The chance of ruptured ovarian cysts forming is every month during you menstrual cycle as this is when eggs develop and mature in the ovaries (which is when you are most susceptible to cysts).

A girl at work had this happen to her a couple months ago and I know that she was in agony....your body will absorb the the liquid that ruptured out of the cyst. As for the Vicodin and rest, that's exactly what my friend did.

I have had a couple ruptured cysts before. they cause tremendous amounts of pain but are otherwise harmless. There are alot of different opinions out there but pretty much you are fine. It's not like the cyst was filled up with toxins, it will just get re-absorbed into your body.

When that happened to me I had a baseball sized pocket of fluid so they sucked it out and at the same time took my appendix out cuz it was getting ready to burst after that I was on vicodin which helped me sleep I lost weight during it cuz all I did was sleep.
