I am a cna, and know the basics of sprains, fractures etc..
Not very good when it comes to my own son,,u know? Family is different.. Anyway,,my son came home from his fathers house today after a day at an amusement park. I called his dad and he said that two days ago (seems odd) he accidentelly ran over my sons foot with a racecar (toy). Today, on the side of his foot he has a good size lump, it's swollen all over his ankle, sore to the touch, hurts to move his foot and toes. I have given him a dose of ibuprofin, and have had ice on it. Should I take him in tonight? He's not crying, but it's obvious it hurts..Or should I wait until morning, see how it looks and feels,, and call his doctor?? What would you do??
I don't want to overreact,,but then again,,I don't want to underreact..INPUT ASAP PLEASE!!!

I severely sprained my foot on Saturday, and I was able to wait until Monday to go to the doctor, and it was nice to see my regular doctor. My foot also had a large bump on it and bruised, and it was only sprained. If you would like to you could take him to the ER, but personally it could be nice to wait, but you may want to go...if you'd like you could ask him what he'd like to do. If you have an urgent care center you could take him there...it would be less expensive, and take less time. Really it's up to you, but if you feel that it's bad you should probably get him seen whether you feel it's urgent and do the ER, or urgent care, or if you feel you can wait until tomorrow morning.

I know how you feel about it being your son, most of us are the same way. It's 9:30 p.m. EST, maybe you're on the west coast, but I think he'll be fine until tomorrow morning. Obviously, you know the basics, so you've already done the proper first aid. Of course, as you know, don't let him put any weight on it until you see the doctor. You may consider going to an Urgent Care Center rather than the doctor in the morning, unless his doctor has x-ray capabilities in his office. He's probably going to request an x-ray anyway so the Urgent Care Center may be a bit quicker if you have one available in your area. If you feel really distressed over it tonight, an Urgent Care Center will be easier than a hospital emergency room.

Sorry that he's injured. Don't listen to the unkind remarks. Take care, be well.

ok this could be stupid yet how intense is the fever? I advise how intense does it get alltogether what replaced into the optimum? And does he take the tylenol without a fuss? If no longer attempt to grant him a suppository you ought to purchase them as an over-the-counter drug as nicely as motrin and tylenol My scientific expert continually mentioned as long because of the fact the fever would not surpass a hundred and one interior the 2d 365 days there is not any could desire to bypass to the scientific expert except the fever is going decrease back up for a minimum of three days or the new child will refuse to drink or has different warning signs with the fever like diarrhea or throws up.

You can never care too much. In the 6th grade I fell off the jungle gym and hurt my foot/ankle. It was completely swollen, sore to the touch, couldn't walk on it. My parents thought I was being a baby and soaked it in ice water. It took them 3 days of increased swelling before they took me to the ER. I had broken 5 bones. I am still bitter that they let me suffer for 3 days before believing that I hurt myself.

I find it very strange that Dad waited TWO DAYS to tell you anything. And that only because you asked.

If the race car was in fact one of those motorized toys (big enough to ride in)- Well, they are pretty big. And without knowing how old your son is, I can't really judge how badly he was hurt. In this case, I would say better safe than sorry.

If he is not in a great amount of pain then you can wait until morning.

Do go to the ER if...
... There is noticable warmth where the foot is swollen
... he has a fever, chills, or night sweats
... he cannot walk on it
... he has pain behind his knee or in his groin
... you can see red streaking moving up the leg
... there is a large amount of pain.

Otherwise it is ok to wait.

Maybe just wait until morning to see if there are any changes, and if it is worse or if you are still concerned I think you should see if you can't squeeze him into the doctors office.

Dude, why are you asking people on here that have no idea what in the heck is going on. I think if it was my kid i'd get him to the er or give your doctor a call and see what they say. Why you are at it I think you should also turn your CNA Liscences in to.
