Jerome AZ and Tombstone AZ could be what you are looking for. But as far as those who venture in being found on the gallows? As far as I know all the gallows have been dismantled. I have been from the west coast and the east coast and I have experienced "apparitions" as you call it, in many shapes and forms. There are many locals that have a "ghost rooms". The Queen Mary (ship that is permanently docked) in California is one. The common definition of a "Ghost Town" is a place that has been that people have lived, but then left. I have found spirits walking the streets from Maine to California.

Never heard of such a thing, but Tombstone in Arizona has been visited by ghost hunters and they caught many things on cam..so it's about as ghostly you can get. As for the gallows..it's probably a wives tale.
