It depends on the reason you are going. If it's to start having annual exams which includes a pelvic exam, pap smear and a breast exam by your dr then here's what happens:

After you get changed in to the gown and use the drape to cover down below the dr will start with having you raise your arms over your head so that they can feel your breasts. This is to check to make sure no abnormal masses are in there.

When that is done they will have you scoot down and put your feet in the stirrups that are at the end of the table and the dr will insert an instrument called a speculum. The speculum looks like the bill of a duck. They will then open this instrument and shine a light inside and take a look at everything such as the vaginal discharge. If they suspect an infection is going on they will take samples of the discharge that gets put on slides to get analyzed either in the dr's office (my dr does some of this) or sent to a lab. They will then check to see what kind of infection it is.

At this time they will also take a special brush to use in the opening to your cervix to take some cells. These cells will be put on a slide that gets sent to a lab to check to make sure there are no abnormal cells going on. The results from this will come back in about 2 weeks. If you should notice a bit of light bleeding (also called spotting) for a couple days after this test that is normal. It is caused by the irritation of the brush that was used to take the cells. If the light bleeding should continue past that then please get in touch with your dr to let them know what is going on.

After they do this they will then take their hands (one on the inside and the other on the outside) and feel the organs as well as press a bit to check the shape and size of the uterus and ovaries to make sure they are normal. If there are cysts there they can often be felt.

This exam should only take about 15 minutes. The dr will also ask you additional questions about your health history and some other things as well so that they have an idea of what kind of medication to give if that is necessary.

The exam should not hurt but if it does it will be for either of the following 3 reasons:

1. nervous (understandable to be nervous but it can cause the area to tense up so please try to relax)

2. the dr is too rough (if this happens you can ask the dr to stop)

3. there is something wrong (such as an infection or something else going on)

If you have any other questions please feel free to e-mail or IM me off site any time.

Not to fear. They do a vaginal examination and determine your breasts. Ask you a couple of query. Or you ask them. They would possibly do bloodwork. Try to uncover out approximately why you do not have a interval. It is anything tht can retailer your existence. Doctors do that every day. This is a aspect of being a girl that we have to take delivery of and no longer seem at as unusual. Try to chill out and it is going to be over earlier than you comprehend it. Good good fortune...
