I caught chickenpox from my little sister when I was 11. The school year was just ending, and she'd caught it from another student in her kindergarten class. Summertime chickenpox is horrible!

Chickenpox in young children is usually more annoying than anything. Associated health risks with chickenpox increase with age and development. The biggest concern is treatment of fever. Children should not be given aspirin unless under direct doctor's orders. Regardless, one is strongly advised to check with their PCP.

The next biggest hassle is the agonizing rash. It's easier to teach a fish how to ride a bicycle than it is to not scratch those awful hives! There are plenty of safe temporary home remedies and topical OTC preparations. Again, check with a doctor. If itching cannot be controlled, the patient runs risk of scarring and/or infection of hives.

Im 23 and Ive never had chickenpox........Everyone kept saying I better hurry up and get them cuz its worst as an adult......but when I was a kid I got a shot (vaccine) to prevent chickenpox, and I got two more when I was in high school, so far, I havent had them............

The test showed I hadn't and the doctor had me vaccinated against them. They're not good to get as an adult esp. if you can become pregnant. To catch them if you've never had them, you just need to hang around someone with them or with shingles and still in the contagious phase. However, I was around both and never got them. You can also get them more than once if the first time was a mild case. I recommend you get the vaccine.

I never did and neither did my mother. She's in her 50s and I'm in my 30s. After a recent chickenpox outbreak in the neighborhood, I went and got the vaccine. It didn't hurt......much.

I had it as a kid and just contracted it from a sibling who had it . If you live in the USA you have surely been vaccinated for it and are not very likely to get it . My wife has never had it even though her 4 sisters and 2 brothers contracted it as children .

i've never gotten chickenpox either, but i got the vaccine. i'm kinda scared of getting a more resistant strain of it in the future, but for right now, i'm just staying away from anyone who has it.
