I have 2 comet goldfish and 3 small goldfish. I just got these a few days ago. I am worried because one of the small goldfishes (who stands out a bit because she is red and white unlike the other two who are standard gold) has been hiding out in the cave almost all day. I watched them for a few hours today and when she did swim out of the cave she was very passive and when ever any of the fish would swim near she would swim away from them. She stayed near the bottom alot so I thought she had that bladder infection but she was swimming okay when she got the nerve...when she was on the top of the aquarium she seemed happy but when the other fish came around she swam back down to the bottom and eventually went back in her cave. The only thing that gets her out of her cave is if another fish comes in it. She appears afraid of the other fish and depressed but I have not seen any of them bully her. What should I do?

Also, is it okay to have the comets with the small goldfish?

It's quite possible that your small goldfish is being bullied, but as long as you aren't seeing any damage I would worry too much. It's only been a few days, give them more time to adjust to each other and things will probably work out just fine.

a little advice redo this all okay, put all of them in a bowl NOT AT ONCE put the small goldfish in first then the comets then put the small goldfish back into where ever you took them out of then wait five minutes then put the comets back in then they know that this is the smalls fish place and cant destroy her (i had a small glo-light tetra and 3 huge goldfish and the glo-light was in there first then the other ones then they left her alone) And yeah it is okay

hopes this helps

plz try this it really works

ok, for one what size tank do you have them in. gold fish need a minimun of 50 gals PER fish inorder to not feel stressed. If you have them in a really small tank, then she will feel stressed out and die!!! Also if you bought them from a wally they will kill the fish if you take it back. I know because I called them to find out if they would accept teh fish back or kill it and the lady told me they flush them or leave them in a bag in the garbage to die, and told me that it didn't matter if I killed it first or not because they where going to kill it anyway!!! If you need more information go to this fish forum, they are friendly and very helpful!!

another helpful thing i can tell you is to either 1) get another tank for the oddball fish or 2) find a friend who is willing to take it 3) upgrade your tank!!! that's all i can suggest!!! hope it works out for you...

i'm not sure what varieties you have have been given, yet you ought to placed the injured one in a separate tank, and the two medicate the water, or upload aquarium salt. That fish is going to prefer time to heal, and you ought to act now earlier those tattered fins become a case of fin rot. additionally, salt, and medicines artwork rather properly in conjunction, each and every on occasion reducing the medical care time in 0.5. desire this permits.

I think you are WAY too concerned about your goldfish, but if you really want to know: obviously, you wouldn't actually see them bullying your small golsfish, but from that type of behavior it sounds like your small goldfish may be being pushed around and it is intimidated, or it has eggs and doesn't want them to be bothered so she is being overly defensive and cautious.
