freedoms and the will of the people are two different things... now you could have a point with one or the other... viewed separately... but you seem to be mixing the two in a pot in this question...

You misunderstand the role of the vote vs. the Constitution. We can vote for leaders--and referendums, etc. But any actions must be within the Constitution. Ohtherwise, voters could vote for any law--including ones that destroyed the civil rights/civil liberties of others.
We DO NOT have unlimited majority rule--the basic principle in America is majority rule--WITH minority rights.
So the majority does not have the unlimited to discriminae against minorities. That doesn't mean that there's a blank check the other way. There's a good arguement to be made against providing social services to illegals--several in fact. The efforts to do so, however, have failed largely because they were not based on some very valid legal principles, but ultimately on racism. Had the restrictions been put in place properly--in accordance with law--they would have been upheld.
Much the same is going to be true of "gay marriage." There is a good (legal) arguement to be made against it. But conservatives, instead of sticking to thos earguements, have engaged in a thinly veiled effort to go beyond the legitimate arguements and penalize gays per se. And so they are going to fail to stop gay marriage in the coming years--unless they change their tactics.
Gitmo is anotther matter. Based on the policies and actions of the Bush administration, a rational person can only conclude that none of the detainees is guilty of any crime. Why? Because if they wre, the authorities wold have charged them in accordance with the law. Sinnce they have not done so, the logical conclusion is that tey know these people are innocent--and can't afford to have that fact shown in a court of law.
(Yes--I know that many of the detainees ARE terrorists--but that's the point--if so, we should charge them, try them, and then put them away for life, execute them if warrented, or whatever.) Since Bush &Co haven't done that, why should we believe the se people are guilty of anything?

I suggest you read the constitution before you release your views. Now that I have your attention, the will of the people refers to all Americans even when they disagree with your position. When republicans/conservatives reject the will of the people ,do you agree or do you think they should concur with you.It sounds as if your gripe is about more Americans being democrats and liberal;which you confuse with not being in line with the will of the people. When republicans win elections, are they taking the vote from those who did not vote for them?Liberals fighting for rights make it possible for you to write this.Think about it. That is why it is called a democracy.

Do you not understand the entire basis of our constitutional government? Sometimes the will of the people is AGAINST freedom. Even if 99 percent of the people wanted to censor someone's free speech, for example, it would still be wrong, and a court would be the place to stop it. Do you not get that?

Liberals scream about everything they can think of. It is tough to be a liberal with absolutely no talking points.

our govt thinks they think for all of us since we voted them in. so they think they are talking for us, and doing what we want. and in reality they are doing what they want for votes. we need a new govt that will work for the American people and legal immigrants.
