Of course, you mean Star Trek.
We'll build it when we overcome the technological problems associated with space travel. Maybe in our lifetime....

jeez, just 100 years ago, we were trying to get paper airplanes into the air for a few hundred metres.

Jeez, not so long ago I had to queue up to make an international call. Now I do it from a card size phone in my top pocket, and when I'm bored I take pictures with it, and I don't have to queue up at the photo shop to get the pics developed.

Jeez, when I was a kid, everyday cameras took black and white photos not much bigger than a postage stamp - you sent them for processing and got them a week later, and it cost you your week's pocket money.

Isn't progress fast enough for you?

And what are you doing to make progress faster?

When pigs fly.

How close do you think we are to Warp Drive?
How close are we to the Transporter Room?

I'll give you "Impulse Power", because ion propulsion is a pretty close comparison.

How close are we to developing a "Shield" system to prevent hull penetration from foreign objects?

How do we deal with high temp alloys that are capable of withstanding close brushes with stars?

How do we deal with Klingons? Romulans? Tribbles? Space Alien Buttheads?

wow, even the old Star Trek looks dated, imagine how ridiculous our current ideas of starships (NX-01) will look like when they finally have them..
