I seriously never bother with the thumb's down unless someone is being blatantly offensive. I love giving thumbs up to people that put great effort into their answers. That show substance and humor and forethought! And then I give stars out to those questions I want everyone else to take a look at too. Kinda fun eh?

I give thumbs up to good answers and thumbs down to stupid ones.
I've got some insecure and cowardly troll following me around all the time thumbs downing me. Notice how I always have a trailing thumbs down. I think this person is hot for me.

I agree with you. If I like their answer then I will give them a thumbs up, if I don't like it then I don't do anything. I only give thumbs down to trolls.

I only give them thumbs down if they've said something incredibly stupid, ignorant or insulting. Otherwise, I give most people a thumbs up just for taking the time to answer my question.

I always give a thumbs up, except once, Rico was down right mean to me, well I gave him a thumbs down and added a detail telling him so. Someone once wanted to violate me (not in terms of reporting me, he was just being a jerk) I have two really good friends who gave took care of that for me. I was tempted to make it 3, but decided to ignore it...
