I accidentally turned the microwave on without putting anything in it. After a few seconds, I heard a buzzing noise and saw that microwave had some orange light in it, kind of like sparks. And after opening it, I saw that towards it's right on top, there is some grey/smokey stain. Other than that, it was fine and it is working. I am just scared to heat any food in it. Is it safe to use? Is there any kind of lead or radio poisoning danger through the food heated in it? Is it any harm to pregnant woman or kids? Thanks so much in advance.

What you saw was grease that has built up in the "waveguide tube" of the unit... It's safe enough... But you obviously need to clean it MUCH more often... Even if you decide to get a new one, CLEAN it more often... There is nothing in a microwave that is dangerous, (except the microwaves themselves) so there is no reason to not use it....

I wouldn't use it now: That's about what the last microwave I owned did before it gave up the ghost, and nearly took the rest of the electrical system with it.

Microwaves are built these days with very good seals. So they should be safe for a pregnant woman and kids.

No more danger now than before it did this.

After cleaning it use a paper towel and cover your food before heating it.
This prevents food from popping and splattering around the insides of the microwave.

Btw, ...."grease in the WAVE TUBE..."??????????
Geeez.

Unless you're wearing tin foil on your head to eliminate death ray's from Mars, heat you food in it, it's really not an issue
