The smoking ban, has made you realise how much you're being ripped off for the price of beer/wine, etc. For the cost of 1 good night out, you can drink for a week at home!

Yes i find i am staying in more since the ban in wales. Also another point why when someone asks a question on this topic do people start winging that you should 'give up' cause its dangerous etc. Smokers are not stupid they know this and it obviously doesn't bother them so what makes people think a post will. If they don't have anythng useful to contribute stopp clogging up the posts.

Also i think the whole ban is hypocritical - the government makes so much money off it . Why not let bar owners choose, as i smoker i wouldn't go into a npn smoking bar so a non smoker could choose not to go into a smoking pub.

in ireland since the smoking ban the off licences have been doing a booming trade, most people drink at home, u will see a downfall of people in the pubs and most people who will still go to the pub you will see them ouside all night.
i can understand the ban but why couldnt they leave the bar a smoking area???they should have left somewhere for smokers...its not very fair...and will cars been banned next cause all there dirty fumes are down my neck ? and sellifield?? and loads more things i just am too annoyed to go on...by the way i AM a smoker, just think it aint fair........ so all you smokers enjoy your last few smoking days in the pubs...

Yes, you noticed too. Even the soaps show people drinking in the home constantly - many glasses of wine, stuck in the house. I think the government will start to tax alcohol like they did the tobacco, as there will be less people smoking with the ban - so scary, maybe I may have to brew my own alcohol (moonshine)!!!

hey chilll out in ireland we thought there was no way the ban would work but it turned out that with the outdoor smoking areas the craic is always outside and chatting up much easier
as we are now comrades ,even non smokers have to go outside because they know there missing all the juicy gossip

Around here, most bars allow smoking. They pay the fine because it's less than the money they'd lose if they banned smoking patrons.

It is not the smoking ban that has turned you into an alcoholic, it is you that has done it.

Stephen k
The smoking ban was not brought in to protect you from doing somthing that is bad for your health, It was brought in to protect you from doing something that is bad for other peoples health

i think the habit of drinking at home started a while ago, with all the taxes the government put on drinks, its much cheaper to drink at home, and like you say, you can also smoke as you wish. also, i believe with all the violence in town/city centres nowadays, people feel much safer in there home!!!

Sounds like an excuse. I think you should back off both the smoking and the alcohol.
