The questioner is absolutly right about Alonso. He won Monaco by default. He had a bad drive in Montreal why because he beleived he was the fastest Driver around. Then our Lewis came along. He has the secret of going quick it is to drive smoothly, give him more power and he will go even quicker. He is making the rest look like amatures ( come on poppy i spelt tht wrong just for you). Are some of you really British i wonder. We are the nation in Iraq not the sleazy spaniards.Lewis has took the world by storm enjoy it.Win or lose at Silverstone who cares he will try his best.Look at the bookies odds.It is obvious some of you do not understand the world of F1.See you at the Silverstone track invasion celebrating our Super Hero Lewis hamilton.

Hmmm, it's going to be difficult to be diplomatic with a question like this so I'll be blunt.
Personally, and I know lots of people disagree with this, I think Alonso is a very over rated driver. Sure he's a quick driver. That's one thing I've never disputed but his commitment to actually racing is in doubt. Yet again it seems pressure got to him and he made a silly mistake. Big deal, it happens. It's just that he kept going backwards thereafter and making the same mistake. To top it all off, rather than be a decent sportsman and say that he had an off day he tried to blame everyone else. As other people have pointed out this is something he has done before.
As for Lewis Hamliton. Do I believe he will win the world championship? Well, I'm an Englishman and as such I support the English drivers. Jenson Button and Anthony Davidson included. Looking at it like this then yes, I'd like to believe that Hamilton can win it. That's not to say that he will.
What is clear at the minute is that Alonso is rattled by the fact that he has a fast team mate and no preferential treatment.
To be honest, as long as the season stays reasonably interesting then I don't care who wins it at the end.
This is definitely the most interesting season for a long time and I say bring in more fast rookies.
Also, I'd suggest that either a) Williams make a fast car so Nick Heidfeld can continue to shine or b) a team with a fast car should hire Nick Heidfeld so he can continue to shine.

Alonso is a good driver, he wouldn't have won two world championships if he wasn't. He has really struggles with the Bridgestones, and that McLaren is not designed for his driving style. Hamilton has come from GP2, and seems to have adjusted earlier. Going through the formulas quite quickly has made him a fast learner.

This main thing here is that Alonso has never had a teammate who was even near as good as him, yet alone capable of beating him. The final straw for him is that man is a rookie. That must hurt. Psychologically, he isn't as secure as some previously thought. But, there are only so many times he can make excuses. The amount of times he was off in Canada, and his moves into the first corner in Canada and Sapin were just mad.

Look Alonso is a brilliant driver. His mistakes are indicative of a driver who is under immense pressure. You have to remember as well that the Renault was built almost exclusively around him. His driving style suited it brilliantly. There is an imense difference between diving two different cars on the limit and he has still got improvement to make. He has the pressure of being a double world champ as well. Is he a Schumacher? I don't really know . He has not done anywhere enough to justify that statement and that is coming from a huge Alonso fan. The Championship is only half over and who knows where it will go from here. That being said Hamilton is an incredibly gifted individual and a real breath of fresh air.

Well, I think that right now he finally can't cope with the pressure that is caused from Lewis. This is only Lewis' first year in F1 and he has finished all the races so far on the podium. Plus, recently he took his first win at Canada! He is no doubt the most talented, most spectacular rookie in F1 history!

The thing is, Alonso is a two-time world champion and he had all that fame and glory for two years. I can remember it clearly- everyday when I get to the newspaper, I see Fernando Alonso., Everyday. All over the place. Now it is Lewis replacing him in the newspapers and yes, it is sickening, to be honest. Because although he is really an amazing driver, I think he is being given too much publicity.

So, my point is, Alonso is starting to worry because Lewis is leading the championship standings. Alonso seemed very glad and relieved that Michael finally left F1. So, I think that he thought the coast was clear and that he was finally free from this seven-time world champion who drives like the wind and challenges him for the victory at every race.

Of course Alonso still had people like Kimi and Massa battling with him for the win. But the thing is, Kimi was in McLaren at one point and the car was terrible. So, that leaves nothing much to be worried about. Then Massa was also good but not as fast as Alonso.

Then this year, just when he was so confident and thinking that the championship title was easily his, Lewis came into the picture. I suspect Alonso might have underestimated Lewis because most rookies in their first year usually have mediocre performances or just average. But Lewis was completely different. He drives like a veteran! First race and he was already on the podium. Alonso might've been slightly freaked out at this point but dismissed it as 'no problem', that Lewis was probably lucky and reassuring himself that it was LEWIS who will help him win the championship titled and NOT the other way round!

But later on as more races went on, it became clear to Alonso that Lewis was darn good! He outqualified Alonso quite a couple of times, in fact.

And yes, I think it was indeed Alonso's own fault. At the beginning of the Canadian Grand Prix, he actually made a bold move on Lewis at the first corner. Not a wise move. He got overtaken by BMW's Nick Heidfeld. It was probably a desperate move that was made to try cut down Lewis' championship points to his own points.

I think Alonso still has a chance to be world champion this year but it will be a very difficult battle. Because,

a) Lewis is an exceptionally great rookie

b) Lewis seems to be relaxed and handling the pressure and expectations from people well

c) Lewis is his teammate. So, he can't risk trying to overtake him and get both of them out of the race.

Well, we'll see! Lewis meanwhile is having a very bright future for him. He might be world champion this year and smash more records...

If some of you don't stop drooling over Hamilton, he will think he is the next Schumacher.

If Alonso loses again at Indy, the championship is over. Given the pts. system, Ferrari is already out and Alonso will be too.

Alonso alleged the team favors Hamilton. He said it yesterday again allegedly. Hamilton grew up in the team, but he is benefited from Alonso's presence. Like him or not, Alonso is the best developer of a race car now that Schumacher has retired.

Alonso has previous for this. He accused Renault of deliberately wrecking his chances last season (so he wouldn't take the number 1 to McLaren) when Michael took the lead in the World Championship. He seems to forget that of all the teams McLaren have a fantastic reputation for parity between drivers.

I think a very strong verbal warning from Mr Dennis might be on the cards, reminding him who pays his wages, what professional standards partners and sponsors expect from McLaren and their employees and that as Senna and Prost never got favouritism from McLaren then neither should he.

I think Fernando got a little bit inflated after beating Schumacher twice. Now to have a rookie teammate giving him a run is probably a little bit threatening. I didn't think it would be much of an issue until just the other day he said Lewis was "lucky" to win the other day in Canada. Come on...Fernando screwed up the turn 1-2 thing 4 times. He's getting slightly arogant.

you are waaaaaay to stressed.

Yes, alonso seems to be a bad loser, but Lewis was a bit too sharp in cutting him up. That however is just heat of the moment and clears the good from the great.

The fact does remain however that Lewis did blistering times and deserved the win.

Totally agree with you.
I think Indianapolis will prove to be the watershed. If Alonso looses the plot again Hamilton is well on his way, looks good for Hamilton as Alonso has a poor record there and although Hamilton hasn`t raced there before that didn`t prove to be a problem at Montreal.
The only thing that worries me is that currently Alonso brings far more money to the table i.e. sponsorship and when all said and done Formula One is a business. Draw your own conclusions
