Crossing a time zone involves changing a clock and has nothing to do with time travel. I'd be careful whom I call stupid next time.

That is correct, if you take a plane trip from east coast to west coat, you are breaking the time barrier, and your past self should have no memory of your future self, so technically you'd be unaware of it as soon as it happened.
