I was just wondering because my Betta fish is lonely. If so, what do fiddler crabs need to survive with my Betta?

siure you can put a crab inside the fish tank . i odnt think it wouldnt even harm the fish or the crab . my sister has a betta fish and she put a small sizes alive seashells , a two alive little red crabs with inside the fish tank anything going well . now its not all alone.

This would be a difficult combination if you do everything you need to keep both animals properly. The betta should be in freshwater, but the fiddler crab should have salt in his water. The crab also needs a place where he can get completely out of the water.

If you've got a reasonably sized tank (2.5 gallons or larger), you might try adding an African dwarf frog (not an African clawed frog) or an apple snail for company.

I wouldn't bother with the crab. Well, here's the thing. These boys have their territories established. If you want to try one with neons, I'd try the one you know was fine with platies, BUT, remove the betta for a few days. Reaarange all the decorations and stuff so it all looks different. Make sure you have plenty of decorations to break up the lines of sight and reduce the chance of aggression. Then add the neons and let them get settled. Adter the neons have settled for a few days, put the betta back in. Now he;s going to a "new" territory with established residents. He will have to establish a new territory on those grounds, knowing he's the newcomer. This way, he won't be attacking the neons for being intruders into his territory. If he doesn't get along with the neons, or the neons are too nippy with him, you could always try the other betta. If neither of them work, you could divide the other 10 gallon and let the bettas "share" it.

Fiddler Crabs: It would be best not to because even if you have everything the crab needs it would probably claw its fins.

An alternate option would be a snail like an Olive Nerite which is a good snail for a betta. The snail would also be really helpful by cleaning the algae in the tank.

1st you betta isn't lonely. Betta aren't social fish. They either ignore or fight with other fish. They are happiest alone or with a n hour or so of mirror each week. Fiddler crabs will likely attack your betta's fins.

My Betta attacked my fiddler crab, I had to separate them but it was to late. By the time I saw what was going on, my crab was on it's back. I pulled it out the water and tried to save him but to no avail. Mr. Krabs is no longer with us...

your betta fish isnt lonely, they are just as happy alone, as they are with another fish. And im sure a crab pinching at his fins wont make him less lonely
