i found this small hard shelled egg under a rock, it was just one egg and no bigger then a finger nail. does any one know what could have layed this egg?

Probably a snake or lizard....if so, it was probably soft shelled to the touch, not hard like a bird egg. You can always open it up, if it is a late stage embryo you will be able to tell what it is. But if it is still alive you will kill it if you do that.

Under a rock? Maybe an alligator lizard?

it sounds like a hummingbird egg..they are extremely tiny but about the UNDER the rock thiny...that could be an anolie(type of amphibian) they are very common.

I think it might of been a hummingbird's egg, Because..I think i heard something about that on the discovery channel..I don't know.. I suddgest searching about it maybe..
