ive always worked on control, to the point where i almost never walk a guy. this past season i walked 4 guys in over 70 innings. the problem is i give guys to much to hit. what are good counts to throw outside of the zone? i mean obviously 0-2 1-2 but im talking more like situational. my fastball and slider top out at around 87, and my curve rarely drops out of the zone. im left handed

thanks! what i meant by wildness is pitching out side of the zone on purpose. i pitch within the zone so much that guys pretty much know they are going to get something to hit. i want to use the "belief" that i might be wild on their part to my advantage

Hey, I'm a lefty too!

Well, I'm not sure what you mean by "wildness"...

But, you asked what's a good cound to pitch outside the zone. Of course 0-2 and 1-2 are good numbers for that time. But you also have to understand the situation your in. Sometimes people will chase the ball outside, and sometimes they won't.

When you run a full count, usually you'd pitch like a down and away or up and in type of pitch. Usually, your catcher or pitching coach would come up and give you some aid. But in my opinion, because I'm too a pitcher, it all depends on your overral situation.

1) Are you winning/losing.
2) Who's up, a strong guy or fast guy
3) The persons batting average. Is he good/bad
4) Are you sure that he will swing or chase after it

And many more are thing you should watch out for when wanting to pitch outside.

I still don't really understand what you mean by "wildness" though. I'll check back later.

that is pretty good but mix up the pitches get the first pitch strike and if you think you can throw one of your off-speed pitches for a strike throw it for the first pitch are you in high school because it is not so bad to walk guys as long as you keep pitches close your gonna get guys to swing start a curve ball or a slider over the plate and have it end off of the plate more than likely the hitters you face will bite

work with your catcher.
the catcher even though he knows you're insanely controlling your pitches... get him to work the plate more...
stick a guy early so you establish the inside corner, do it with a curve then a heater to another guy to let them know you mean business... ""he's wild up n in", give him a lil more room to work with....

i know this is "not" the way to play... but if you dominate the inside part of the plate then you will have no problems commanding the rest of it.
0-2 counts especially, get the catcher to stand up after he gives ya the fastball signal, or get him to set up a foot outside, this works, and you will find if you have got the inside worked already, they may go fishing on a pitch that a fungo couldn't even reach!

good luck to ya!

Throw strikes and change speeds, that is how one becomes a major league pitcher: Ray Miller

It doesn't sound to me like your problem is the waste pitch. It's changing speeds. I thought I could hit the ball until I faced guys that could really throw a change-up. Now instead of being a baseball player, I answer questions on YA.

Simple. You should learn when and where to waste a pitch. Learn how to pitch inside the strike zone. Pitch so the hittes don't think you are going to groove a fastball.

Concentrate and the follow through.
Relax and think about other things when you are away from the game.
Take the dog for a walk, wash the car. Watch the TV. but you are concentrating too much at times and overpitching.
It will take a little time.
When at the field focus, but away stop the worry.
Sure you are one of the best on the team and your intensity is making it frustrating at times.
Good luck to you

Pitchers ought to fireplace their comfortable pitching elbow down and around in the direction of 1st base. this could come into conflict with many pitching coaches mythology of the intense ****** arm place in the process the steadiness part of the pitching action. yet by comparing action pictures of many elite pitchers like Kerry wood, Mark previous, Nolan Ryan, and Roger Clemens it somewhat is clean to be sure that those throwers continuously stay at the back of the ball in the process the throwing technique.

the batters that you face are too comfortable with your control. Early in the game, throw inside and mean it. If you hit someone, so be it (aim from the waist down) . I guarantee that future batters in that game will not be as comfortable.

Nolan Ryan had tremendous stuff, but he also put the fear of God into batters as he often hit people. This made him more effective and no one was ever comfortable facing him...
