I am a African American who thinks white guys are so attractive. Thing is it seems like they are so afraid to approach me. I mean I dress preppy (JCrew, AE, Sperry's, Rainbows) and speak proper... It just seems like they never even take a second glance at me. It would be really nice to find the real reason why white guys are afraid to even talk to a black girl..more or less date one.

Ok so.. for the people who are wondering.. I have also dated white guys and i am curently dating one now. I don't look as it as a race thing. I do find good guys. I was just wondering the reason because i see it sometimes. Oh and I live in NC.. its the south and people don't really approve of interracial relationships here as they do on the west coast... I can see that the stereotypes have really scared some white guys off but not all of us are like that.

Ok so first of all.. I am definately not superficial.. can you blame for the way I was brought up?!?!? Dressing preppy and speaking proper IS a part of me and in no way, shape or form and I fake. Yes I do know who I am do you? It just suprises me when people try to tell me to stick to my own race when I go for who I am atractted to. Sorry for disappointing you black men and women who feel that I should stay with my own race... that is a problem you have to deal with...not me!!! Secondly.. to the lady who said "white should be with whites and blacks with blacks" you are ignorant. LOL... like seriously ignorant and stupid of you think that is the right way to go about life. To the guy in kansas.. thanx for the compliment. I just wish people would not judge me because of how I was raised. Just because I am who I am... doesn't mean I don't know about my history. What makes you think I would ever forget about my history???? But this is mel.. this is who I am and sorry I can't change that!

You must live in the wrong area. I see lots of mixed-race couples of all flavors around here in central NJ. It's no big deal. Most decent peeps are all cool with each other. Sure, there are idiots and bigots, but they're impossible to get away from no matter where you are. Try talking to some random guy you think is cute. Ask a question about school (you sound young) or the latest movie or something that's going on in your town. Just start the convo, it can't hurt. If you're lucky, he'll keep it going. If not, move on to the next guy and don't ever take it personally.

I don't know of any that are afraid. Most men I've seen like anything in a skirt. Another race always seems exotic and spicy to many of us-:) All kidding aside it depends where you come from I suppose and what the relationships are like between the races and cultures. My experience has shown me that religion is a much bigger factor than race. When I was single, I sure as heck cannot get a date in most cases with an Islamic girl for example and woh betide the reaction from her family!
Don't forget also that many men are shy. Next time you are out at a dance or night club watch some guy approach a girl and ask her to dance. If she says no you'll see he'll retire to his table and probably not try asking again all night - in short they are afraid of rejection by anyone.
Finally, you always hear from people with racist agendas here but I would wager that the Grand Dragon himself of the KKK would fling his sheets quickly back on the bed were he to have a chance with the likes of Halle Berry, Janet Jackson, Niaomi Campbell etc.

Not ALL of them are. I have been approached by a few, and have dated one. I think for whatever reason, they are less likely to date (or it maybe may be approach) black women in general. I'm unclear as to the reason, especially since you see lots of situations the other way around. Personally, I do not seek out people based on color, perhaps you should give that a try, and just focus on finding a good guy without giving too much thought to their ethnicity.
Edit: I lived in NC and met some guys, in VA now.

I know it seems like we are not attracted to black women and I don't blame you for thinking that, but white guys can and are often times very attracted to black women, myself included, the truth is we honestly think that black women don't like us, because we are told it, of course there are sexual stereotypes too that intimidate some men as well, I once was with a black woman and she said that she was only attracted to white men, and she then gave me a concerned look as my jaw had dropped to the floor, it was the opposite of everything i had been told, you seem lovely, trust me plenty of white men and other races would probably be very interested in you

Ok, first; "I dress preppy...speak proper". Sounds like you're looking for approval rather than to share you feelings with someone. And that is the worst thing anyone can do to themselves REGARDLESS of race.
Second; you are making a HISTORIC mistake by thinking that someone will be attracted to you by what you present to them superficially!! Its has nothing to do with the clothing you wear. Your esteem is beyond clothing and mannerism's.
If you want to break inter-racial dating down to a science, white men,(and this is from experience)genuinely find blacks attractive!! Oops the secret's out. No potions, no voo-doo, just BE YOURSELF. Please stop putting your esteem on the shoulders of a majority! Its not worth it.

maybe its where you live? where i live i see blk grl/ white guy couples all the time. ive dated them my entire life as well as some hispanics and asians. it could be that they dont find you attractive or its just not really an option where you're from....?? dunno really. for me i know they'll look and stare out of curiosity and it just gets worse when they hear me talk lol but im such a loud outgoing person, ill talk to like random people on the street complementing them. i have several black friends just like me...minus the crazy loud part lol
if the white guys around you in general seem that way maybe its still very taboo where you live...and they probably arent open to it yet..
its always nice to break the ridiculous ignorant stereotype that "most" blk girls are mean and closed minded etc. i listen to all kinds of music. i refuse to label myself. im me. dont call me prep emo punk goth jock. its ashley thanks.

Now I understand where you coming from. From what I have heard, black girls are scary to white guys. They also think we're tons of work and are really stuck up. Plus, they don't want to get hurt becuase black girls can be dangerous sometimes.

oh god, you should delete this question but I will answer. Once upon a time I talked to this guy who was white and after that he kept approaching me..oh and look around they could be looking at you. There was this one guy who smiled and stared at me for what appeared to be half of the class period but I just looked at him like What are you looking at....I don't like to be stared at but I ocassionaly see some watch me sometimes...

I don't know, I'm white and Latin and I love black girls.
Well Blonda is an example why many guys prefer to date black, Asian, Latin, etc, girls more frequently now a days. Why to waste our time dating an empty head like her?
